What is a binder plate or no-binder plate?

The original AICS magazines used a plate in the front to make them rigid and ensure reliable feeding in standard rifles. However, this limited the length of the cartridges, limiting how far out competitors can seat their bullets. Modern high-strength manufacturing (CNC, better steel) allows AICS magazines to be built without a plate while retaining their strength and rigidity.

  • We generally suggest a binder plate magazine that can handle a max COAL of 2.870". This fits all factory actions and custom 700's
  • For the need of a longer overall cartridge length, non-binder plate magazines can be used, which allows up to a 2.96" OAL. However, almost all factory actions will require the feed ramp to be notched. Typically, 700 Clone actions are already cut for them, but you will need to double-check with the action manufacturer.

When using a Chassis or bottom metal that accepts AICS short-action magazines, the AICS 300WSM/6.5PRC magazines are no-binder plate magazines.
