Most other actions on the market offer two different sizes to accommodate the different lengths of ammunition. Tikka decided to make one action size in between no matter the caliber.
When buying a chassis for your Tikka T3X rifle you will need to select a Tikka T3x SA or LA chassis or bottom metal. This is because the magazine well is set to either run AICS short action magazines or our Long action 5rd metal 3.560" magazine.
Common Short action (SA) cartridges will be:
- .223, .308, or 6.5 Creedmoor, 243win, 22-250, etc. Even up to 6.5PRC (max overall cartridge length is 2.96").
Common Long action (LA) cartridges will be:
- .300WM, 6.5x55, or 30.06, 270win, 7mm Remington Mag, 7PRC, etc.
Comments
At this time, we do not offer an XRS chassis for the Tikka T3/T3X long-action rifle. However, any of our other chassis in the Tikka T3 LA inlet will work for your rifle and feed 300WM without issue.
I have an MDT ESS for a Tikka LA 300WM but want to change to a 6.5 Creedmoor. I know you don't necessarily recommend this because of possible feeding issues but I might not be able to afford a second chassis... what is the best way to make this work as well as possible?
Do I need to load the 6.5 in my current 3.560 mag or would it work better if I got a different mag?
You would have to use a 3.560" magazine and bend the feed lips in. For semi-reliable function, you will need to be able to maintain a COAL of 3.100". Also, your 6.5 Creedmoor will need modification to the bolt stop to allow it to come back far enough to pick up the round.
Hi, I am owning a Tikka T3x in 270WSM. Do I need a Tikka T3/T3X SA or LA chassis ? Thank you
For your combination, we recommend a Tikka T3/T3X SA chassis.
Can you confirm that my 270 Win Tikka T3 would be a Long Action for the MDT HNT26?
Also, will my stock Tikka magazines work with this chassis, or will I be required to buy your magazines?
Your Tikka T3 in 270 Winchester will require the long-action chassis, and it will convert your rifle to accept AICS magazines. Your factory magazines will no longer fit. For the Tikka rifles, you will need the 30.06 magazine in 3.560 length.
I have a Tikka T3x Lite D18 chambered in 6.5 PRC. I’m looking at getting the MDT HNT26, would I need short action or long action?
Ideally, you will want to choose the short action chassis unless you plan to reload your 6.5PRC rounds longer than 2.96". Then, you would have to go with the Long-action chassis.
i have a left hand tikka t3x sl chambered in 7mag, seems that there isnt a chassis option for me, is that correct?
Thank you for your question. That is correct; we do not make a chassis for an LH Tikka T3/T3x LA chassis at this time. If we can help with any other questions, please let us know.
Have the tikka t3x 243 what action sa or la for the oryx chassis do I choose and what caliber mag to go with for the chassis
You will want to go with the Tikka T3/T3x SA (short action) and use AICS short action 308win/6.5CM magazines.
HelloI would like to build a custom in 7mm PRC, based on the ACC Elite.
I understood that it was necessary to select "Remington 700 LA CIP 3.580" option.
Can I also select the "Tikka T3X SA" option and do I could fit a "Tikka T3X LA Magnum" into it? Thank you for your feedback. Have a good day.
Georges
While a Tikka T3/T3X SA chassis would physically fit a Tikka T3/T3X LA rifle, it wouldn't be able to feed from the magazine.
