SUPPORT CENTER:

Will my Savage rifle work with an MDT Chassis?

Savage has many different models. Unfortunately, there are many different Savage models, and over the years there have been minor changes that sometimes affect fit and function. We do however 100% guarantee our chassis to work in the following.

All MDT Savage Short Action Chassis will work with:
Model 10, 11, 12 and 16 with the exception of model 12-Palma, 12-Fclass, 12-benchrest. Additionally, new Model 110's in short action chamberings.

All MDT Savage Long Action Chassis:
Model (new models) 110, 111, 112, and 116. Additionally, we support stagger feed model 110 in long action rounds, however, a modification will need to be made to the receiver.

We also support Savage models with the bottom bolt release. The bolt release is accessible through the side of the trigger guard.

I have a Savage 110 Tactical .308, which .308 is Short Action. The only MDT Chassis that is for the 110 is Long Action. I'm wondering which one to eventually get?

It depends on what year your rifle was made. If it's brand new, it will be a short action and fit any of our short action chassis systems.

Will the Tac21 chassis work specifically with the Savage 12FV model?

Yes, the 12FV will drop into the Savage SA option without an issue.

6.5 Creedmoor would be a short action cartridge and feed from 308 magazines.

I have an older (mid to late 1990's) model 111 in .243.  I believe it is a long action and when I remove the factory stock, the internal blind magazine is attached to the bottom of the receiver.  You video says this means it is a stagger feed rifle and will require modifications, but I can't find what those modifications are.  Also, I assume I will have to use the long action magazines, but will they work with my rifle?  First will the 243 reliably feed from the long action mags?  Second, will the mags seat and feed into the rifle because it appears the opening in the bottom of the receiver is sized for a short action round even though it is a long action sized receiver.  I appreciate any help.  Thanks

William, if it's a 90's 111 in 243 it is most likely a long action chambered in a short action, you can confirm by measuring how far apart your action screws are.  If they are 4.27" or 4.4" apart, that is a short action and it will drop right into our Savage SA option and 243 will feed from 308 mags without issue.

If your action screws are 5" apart, then that would be a true long action and it would drop into any of our Savage LA chassis, but, being chambered in a short action caliber, it will not feed a short action cartridge with any reliability from a long action magazine.  You could single feed it, but that would be the only option if it is a true long action receiver.

Ryan, thanks for the response.  I have a follow-up.  Will the LSS Gen 2 Chassis for a Savage short action work with a Model 11 with a heavy barrel? It is a 243 as well made in the last 5 years or so.

Savage has made things somewhat confusing with their naming conventions and changes to them.

Yes, that should drop right into our Savage SA option, our chassis will work with both top or bottom bolt release as well as both 4.27" and 4.4" action screw spacing.
